Celebrated with collective zeal & vigour by the locals of Chhattisgarh, Bastar Dussehra is one of the most vibrant festivals in India. A 75-day-long extravagant celebration, this festival is also known to be the longest festival in the world.

The idea of this cultural carnival is centred around the way of honouring the local goddess Danteshwari by native tribal. Last few days of this festival during Dusshera times become most spectacular since the streets get vibrantly alive with colorful decorations, and masses of people pulling giant chariot. It’s the time when all you could sense is the utter joy of celebration.

Itinerary

Excursion to what is known as the widest waterfalls in India - Chitrakote waterfalls. Feel your lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery - blue skies, soft breeze and sunshine around many attractions like Tamda ghumar waterfalls Mendri Ghumar Valley and many other serene locations. Visit Narayanpal temple, known to be 1000 - years old, the only Vishnu temple in the region with chronicles from the past.

Overnight stay at Chitrakote Adventure Camp

Muck in the nature trail from Chitrakote waterfalls to discover interesting locales, water streams, cliffs, valleys and seasonal water stream. Visit Dantewada to fill yourself up with recital of many indigenous ritual and legend of Goddess Danteswari. Witness memory pillars - megalith dedicated to the deceased from the community, engraved with the tale of their lived life. Stop off at 'Dev Gudis' and 'Mata Gudis' which are holy premises to worship local Gods and Goddesses.

Overnight stay at Dholkal Jungle Camp

Set off to trek to Dholkal peak, trek through the misty forest to reach Ganesha idol sitting at the top of the hill, observe the interesting environs and natural fauna of the region. Visit Barsur temple series - catch on the recital of numerous temples known to be built in 11th century. Temples that hold history, myths, and stories.

Attend fascinating Dusshera event - Mawli Pargaw. Get to know the chronicles of Goddess Danteshwari, traditions and rituals followed by the tribal communities, dynasties that ruled the region and how everyone comes along to honor the deities.

Overnight stay at Hotel

Head on to craft making spree, learn about various indigenous craft of Bastar region namely - Bell metal Craft, Wrought iron and Terracotta. Dive in the craftsmanship carried on by indigenous communities. Visit mesmerizing waterfalls and valleys in Kondagaon region.
